Who Should Join?

People and students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), information technology and allied fields would be the most interested in joining. Other interested persons can likely also join as associate or regular members. Following is some information about membership, benefits, and branch formation.

Applying for Membership

To apply for a professional membership see this page: https://www.ieee.org/membership-application/public/join.html – If you are located in a part of the Louisville Section’s service area, you should be automatically added to our roles.

Local and Student Branch Requirements

There is a vast amount of information regarding policies of the formation of different types of subunits of IEEE sections and regions. Most likely to be of interest are subsections which could be organized at the city or county level, student branches which would be localized to a particular school and chapters, which would be organized around a particular technical interest under a full section, but not further geographically localized. To form a subsection requires at least 20 signatory members of IEEE, while to form a student branch or chapter requires a minimum of 12 signatory members of IEEE.

For information about joining an existing IEEE unit see this web page: https://www.ieee.org/communities/geographic-activities.html

For information about forming a new IEEE unit see this page: https://www.ieee.org/communities/forms_petitions.html
